Navigating the Skies: Unlocking the Perks of the British Airways Visa Signature Card

Last week we talked about how to enjoy free or low-cost luxury flights using Qatar Airways and the OneWorld Airline partnership (check out the post "Unlocking Global Adventures: Booking Qatar Airways Trips with American Airlines Miles").  The OneWorld alliance is a group of 13 airlines, including Qatar and British Airways, which enables you to use miles (Avios points) to book tickets on any airline within the partnership. This means you can use Avios earned on your British Airways credit card for British Airways flights and any airline within the partnership. Having the right card can help open a world of free airfare. This is where the British Airways Visa card from Chase comes in.

There are so many airline credit cards out there, that it is often hard to find the right one for you.

Earn Avios, Unlock Adventures

At the heart of the British Airways Visa Signature card is its ability to earn Avios. Avios can be redeemed for tickets on flights with partner airlines within the OneWorld alliance partnership including:

  • American Airlines

  • British Airways

  • Cathay Pacific

  • Finnair

  • Iberia

  • Japan Airlines

  • Malaysia Airlines

  • Qantas

  • Qatar Airways

  • Royal Air Maroc

  • Royal Jordanian

  • SriLankan Airlines

This means if you have miles with any Oneworld member airline, you can use them to book another OneWorld airline awards travel on another one of the member airlines. For example, if you have American Airlines or British Airways miles you can use them to book flights on Qatar Airways.

Generous Welcome Offer

To kickstart your travels, the British Airways Visa Signature card often comes with a generous welcome bonus for new cardholders. The current offer is 75,000 British Airways Avios after spending $5,000 within  3 months of account opening.  These bonus points can jumpstart your Avios balance, bringing you one step closer to your next award tickets. In addition, you will earn 5 Avios for every $1 spent on gas, grocery stores, and dining purchases for the first year of account opening or up to $10k. These category purchases normally earn 1 Avios. The new cardmember bonus allows you to get a large amount of Avios, which gets you to award travel quicker.

Companion Voucher Benefit

One of the most coveted perks of the British Airways Visa Signature card is the companion voucher benefit for big spenders. Each year you spend $30,000 on your card, you'll earn a Travel Together Ticket, which allows a companion to accompany you on a British Airways award flight, paying only taxes and fees. This companion ticket benefit can result in substantial savings and make luxury travel more accessible than ever before.

Other British Airways Visa card Perks

For travel charges made to your card, you earn 3 Avios for every $1 spent on British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Iberia purchases. You will also earn 2 Avios for every $1 spent on hotel accommodations booked directly with the hotel. You can also receive 10% off British Airways flights starting in the United States. This card has an annual fee of $95. This card also gives statement credits of $100 for Economy and Premium Economy or $200 for Business and First Class seats three times per year, up to $600, when you book a reward flight to London traveling on British Airways and pay taxes, fees, and carrier charges with the British Airways Card. An additional perk is this card has no foreign transaction fees when used abroad. This card also gives you a one-year complimentary DashPass membership.

Is the British Airways Visa Signature Card Right for You?

There are many Chase cards to choose from for travel rewards, which will give you a portfolio of travel rewards. For example, the Aer Lingus Visa Signature also from Chase, will earn Avios as well, which you can use for reward travel within the OneWorld Alliance.
